HIST 335

19th Century Europe

This course focuses on the major transformations in European politics, economics, culture and society between the French Revolution and World War I. Topics include Napoleonic Europe, industrialization, the emergence of class as a concept for explaining fundamental social change, the revolutions of 1848, the unification of Germany and Italy, the expansion of European imperialism especially as seen in Africa, and the convergence of tensions which contributed to the outbreak of World War I.
