NURS 450

Nursing in the Community

This course includes both a didactic and clinical component. It introduces the theoretical basis for community-oriented nursing practice. It emphasizes the application of community/public health concepts applied to promoting and preserving the health of the community. Diverse populations across the lifespan and throughout the continuum of the healthcare environment will be examined. Community assessment, epidemiology, environment, political action, and case management frameworks are used to guide evidence-based nursing care delivery to individuals, families, and populations in community settings. The practicum introduces the student to community-oriented nursing practice. A community assessment/analysis project is completed. Upon completion and analysis of the community assessment the student is able to determine priority health objectives. In addition, an 80 hour clinical practicum will provide opportunities for community/public health nursing practice to individuals, families, and populations in community settings.
