After an introductory survey of pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial art, the art of Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the U.S. is studied within the contexts of contemporaneous cultural, intellectual, political and social history. The diverse visual cultures of Latin American and Latino art are thematically unified by an examination of common concerns and motivations.
