History of the West and the World II

A survey of world history from the onset of European overseas expansion (c. 1500 CE) to the present, highlighting developments and problems in social, political and cultural history that have continuing relevance in todays world, such as cultural change and exchange, imperialism and colonization, industrialization, political reform and revolution, the interplay between religion and society, class and gender relations, and the causes and forms of human conflict. Attention will be paid to both western and non-western cultures and to the dynamic and often violent relations between cultures
