HIST 395

Historiographical Perspectives

The capstone in the history major, this course examines the history of historical writing and the historians vocation, primarily in the Western tradition. Emphasis is on reading and discussion of significant texts and issues in Western historical writing in past and present times. We will consider such questions as: What is history? How should it be studied, taught, and written? What purposes does it serve? Students will evaluate a variety of Christian and non-Christian perspectives on these questions and be challenged to articulate their own answers
