Canoeing

This course offers students an introduction to lake and river canoeing skills. It is the objective of this course to provide students with the opportunity to examine, practice, and demonstrate individual proficiency in tandem canoeing. This course will begin by focusing on equipment, equipment use, and proper posture. The class will then learn a variety of essential and advanced strokes and bracing techniques. Students will have the opportunity to apply canoeing skills to both flat-water and river canoeing environments. The course will also cover safety, risk and hazard evaluation, basic rescue skills, and general trip planning. Off-site classes and a Saturday trip will be required. There is a course fee. This course fulfills Physical Education and Recreation: Leisure and Lifetime Activities Core
