Proposed projects must be approved by a full-time Arabic faculty member, who will serve as the course supervisor. The student should initiate a project and discuss its details with the designated advisor. The selected topic ought to be related to any facets of the Arabic language (classical or modern) and culture. Such is the case with literature, media, translation, linguistics, music, the Qur'an, or grammar. For example, the project can focus on literary works, a theme in Arabic language, or famous literary figures. An independent study may be used to cover the materials of a listed course that is not offered or canceled in a given year. The title of the project will appear on the student's transcript. The course may be repeated for credit with a change of topic.
