BIO 474

Stream Ecology

A study of the interaction of physical, geochemical, and biological components in stream ecosystems. Adaptations of organisms in aquatic environments, community interactions, and ecosystem energetics are emphasized. Field and laboratory study give students experience in inquiry-based activities involving data collection and stream ecosystem analyses. Techniques in stream habitat and water quality assessment are covered. To facilitate outdoor excursions, may be scheduled outside normal semester dates and graded initially with a T grade.
