Particular attention is given to the nature of fieldwork in various research settings: community, institutional, classroom, and life history studies. Also examined are issues in qualitative research: thick vs. thin descriptions; the politics of interpretation; ethics of fieldwork; possible applications of qualitative research findings. Focuses on specific methodologies such as participant observation, interpretive biography, and open-ended interviewing.
