FMA 243

Contemporary Film

Explores and examines structures of narrative filmmaking for cinema in the modern era. We will examine cinematic practices outside and inside the domestic U.S. market, the economic expansion of the Hollywood apparatus, and cinema in opposition to dominant culture. Utilizing both a "historical time period" and a "national cinemas" approach, we will investigate the way these industries operate economically, technologically, and aesthetically.
