This course is a detailed study of functions including linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, root/radical/power, exponential, logarithmic and piecewise-defined functions; graphing techniques; solutions of a variety of equations and of systems of linear equations; solutions of polynomial and rational inequalities. Students are provided with intensive support to strengthen their algebra skills. Prerequisite material will be introduced as needed. This course makes extensive use of online software for computer assisted instruction, assessment, and testing. Some class meetings will be held in a computer laboratory setting and students are expected to use the software on a self-paced, out-of-class basis to supplement regular in-class meetings. Only 3 credit hours of MTH 165 or MTH 167 will count towards graduation requirements. MTH 165 requires class contact time of 8 credit hours and will be applied towards both financial aid and term billing as 5 credit hours.
