Ecology of Crime and Punishment

The purpose of this course is to study the role that formal penal sanctions, primarily incarceration, plays in curbing social and economic inequality in the U.S. The course will also draw heavily from empirical work and delve into areas such as sentencing disparity and policing and the role they play on inequities in the justice system.
