Examination of contemporary social issues, including alcoholism, drug addiction, mental illness, poverty, family crisis, nonvictim crime, child abuse, senility, and racism as they intersect the criminal-justice system. Interaction of social issues and criminal behavior is analyzed with the focus on alternatives to arrest and incarceration through the use of community resources. Course expectations assume a background in criminal justice or administration of justice system.
