This course integrates and accelerates reading and writing at the basic skills level with a focus on learning to use language to learn. Course content, activities, and assignments integrate reading and writing for an academic purpose. Reading and writing are instructed and contextualized through a focus on a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts, and through the discussion of the meaning of a college education (including a focus on student services, academic programs, and campus events). Successful completion of this course will serve as a prerequisite for ENGRD 59/ENGWR 58 at Cosumnes River College. Placement in the course will be through the college assessment process; self-placement will not be allowed. This course is the same as ENGWR 42, and only one may be taken for credit.
