IMED 3053

Junior Internal Medicine Clerkship

Required of all third-year medical students. With the Junior Internal Medicine Clerkship experience each student will spend a total of eight weeks at two of our three affiliate hospital facilities, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Johnson City Medical Center or Holston Valley Medical Center, as part of the inpatient team. There will be six weeks inpatient internal medicine and two weeks elective subspecialty rotation. During this period students will admit and follow patients. Students will learn to take a complete history, conduct a thorough and accurate physical exam, take into consideration complex psycho-social issues, formulate a problem list, construct a relevant differential diagnosis, and along with the care team students will begin to manage the daily details of the care of patients. During this clinic time the student will see the patient with the resident and actively participate in the discussion with the resident and preceptor. The student will be required to write a complete history and physical or a SOAP note for each patient.
