Legal Issues in Physical Education and Sport

This course is designed to introduce and familiarize students with basic knowledge of the legal system and legal issues prevalent in physical education, athletics, and recreational activities. Major focus of the course is on understanding the concept of negligence, where and how negligence occurs and identifying ways in which negligent acts can be reduced or eliminated. Other topics relating to the scope of legal issues will be addressed. These topics will include Title IX of the Education Amendments Act, violence in sport, product liability, drug testing, and transportation issues.
