Hamilton College is a private, nonsectarian liberal arts college located in the village of Clinton, New York, in the Mohawk Valley region of the Eastern United States (in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains). Founded as an academy in 1793, it was chartered as Hamilton College in 1812 (named for charter trustee Alexander Hamilton). It has been coeducational since 1978, when it merged with its sister school Kirkland College. Hamilton's student body is 52% female and 48% male, and comes from 49 U.S. states and 45 countries.
