Techniques in Microbiology

This course is designed to provide training in microbiological procedures. An emphasis will be placed on laboratory techniques that have widespread use in modern microbiology labs, including CRISPR-Cas genome editing and creation of mutant bacterial strains for use in phenotypic experiments. Additionally, this course will focus on preparing students for careers with a heavy backing in scientific procedure and literature. To this end, students will be expected to read and analyze primary scientific literature and discuss this literature in a group setting as well as write and review literature in writing. One hour of lecture, two hours of lab per week
