Survey of the history of pre-modern East Asia to 1600, focusing particularly on China, Japan, Vietnam and to a lesser extent, Korea. Course will emphasize the development of East Asian cultures, societies, and political structures and will use a comparative analysis in seeking to understand the history of the region
