Linguistic Field Methods

An intensive study with a speaker of a non-Indo-European language, the purpose of this course is to develop skill in data elicitation, data management, language acquisition, cultural awareness, and the analysis of the semantic, grammatical, and phonological structures of human languages. Also included is an introduction to writing technical papers, second language acquisition principles and methods, and computerassisted management of data. Required equipment: voice recorder with a good quality microphone.
