BIO 1130

BIOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES I

This is part one of a two semester inquiry based course in introductory biology for students majoring in the sciences. This course provides a coherent, unified picture of biology by ordering principles around structural levels of organization from macro-molecules to ecosystems. Major topics covered include a discussion of the scientific method and its application, the cellular basis of life including a discussion of basic chemistry; cells as units of structure and function; energy transformations including cellular respiration and photosynthesis, the basic principles of classical and molecular genetics, cell cycle and evolution.
