CHM 4310

BIOCHEMISTRY

This one-semester course is a survey of basic principles of biochemistry, emphasizing broad understanding of chemical events in living systems in terms of metabolism and structure-function relationships of biologically important molecules. It involves a rigorous treatment of the synthesis of macromolecules, structure, function and chemistry of proteins and carbohydrates; the role of enzymes including basic enzyme kinetics and catalytic mechanisms and cellular metabolism viewed from the standpoint of energetics and control mechanisms. The laboratory component of the course will acquaint students with techniques currently used in biochemistry. Cross Listed Courses BIO 4310
