CRISIS PUBLIC RELATIONS

This course is intended to inculcate the students knowledge and skills critical to the resolution of true public relations crises (that is, those infrequent situations when the public standing of an institution is at serious risk). While not a case studies course, Crisis Public Relations will include discussion of the experiences of public relations practitioners in a variety of institutions which have been subjected to significant public criticism. More important, however, will be the examination of techniques in identifying trends in issues which might result in future crises, insights helpful in recognizing crises in their early stages, and communications principles critical in responding appropriately when public relations crises actually occur.
