SPECIAL EDUCATION LAW AND ITS CONTEXT

The requirements of federal and state legislation regarding the delivery of special education services will be examined. Particular attention is paid to the role of teachers in securing and assuring the rights of pupils with disabilities to appropriate special education services and/or accommodations. The historical context as well as the influence of social, psychological, political contexts associated with special education referral, classification and placement will be examined.
