IMAGE MAKING

Graduate students will be taken through a progression of art-and-literature-based mini-lessons designed to provide students with an experiential understanding of the key elements of writing. Image-Making Within The Writing Process offers an alternative approach to teaching writing that uses collage made from hand-painted papers to construct meaning. Guaranteed to entice struggling readers and reluctant writers, Image-Making has been validated by the U.S. Department of Education as an innovative and effective literacy model. Students craft their own quality picture books, often tied to the science or social studies curriculum, using their own portfolio of hand-painted papers. The Image-Making process can be used to address Core English Language Arts Standards in a manner that is engaging.
