BASICS OF LITERACY INSTRUCTION FOR ADOLESCENCE EDUCATION

Students preparing to teach biology, chemistry, English, mathematics, social students or Spanish at the adolescence level will gain the concepts and skills necessary to support literacy learning of pupils in grades 7-12. The course will focus on the nature of reading, strategies for assessing students' reading levels and for selecting appropriate text materials, approaches for supporting struggling readers or students who are English language learners, and methods of improving students' skills in word attack, comprehension and vocabulary. Fieldwork is required.
