ENG 4520

COMEDY/SHAKESPEARE, SHERIDAN, SHAW

This course examines diverse theories of comedy as set forth in such works as Meredith's Essay on COmedy and Henri Bergson's On Laughter. Students will read and study representative English comedies by Shakespeare, Sheridan, and Shaw and also see selected plays by some of these authors and other British dramatist to apply theory to representations of the genre.
