Introduction to Healthcare Systems

This course introduces business and management aspects of the healthcare delivery system by providing a theoretical basis for the system. Using a business management and administration perspective, the course provides a broad overview of the history and development of major health policy issues as it relates to planning, organization, management, evaluation, and quality improvements in healthcare. Additionally, the course examines the development of healthcare policies at federal and state levels and the influence of different constituencies in the policy formation process. In addition, the course examines the role of politics in healthcare and compares the U.S. policy and policy formation process with other developed nations.
