WORLD HISTORY I

This course surveys the history of civilization up to 1500 CE. Focus will be on the development of cultures in Europe, South and East Asia, the Middle East, North and South America, and Africa, as well as encounters between these regions. Topics will include the growth of cities, cultural and intellectual life, agricultural economies, the rise of global trade networks, the spread of diseases, religious movements, and military conflicts.
