NATIONALISM & SECTIONALISM: 1815-1865

This course seeks to capture the critical events of the first half of the nineteenth century that both brought the nation together then saw it rendered into a Civil War. The age of Jackson, the Transportation Revolution and the divisive issues of westward expansion, slavery and free soil politics will be examined in some detail, as well as the firm solidification of federal power during the Civil War.
