HLT 3000

TRANSCULTURAL HEALTH CARE

This course focuses on culture and its relationships to health. It introduces culture care beliefs, values and practices of specific cultures and subcultures. Contemporary issues about diversity will be identified to assist students in exploring problem areas related to culture care practices. Students will explore culture care differences and similarities as a basis for planning, implementing, and evaluating culturally competent care. The course includes current guidelines, mandates, and standards with regard to cultural diversity and promotion of cultural competence. Students will apply transcultural health care theory and models when planning interventions for multicultural populations. Furthermore, students will be introduced to transcultural health care research findings and use of best evidence to promote health and prevent disparities.
