Advanced MH Nursing I Practicum

This clinical practicum serves as the introduction to the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner clinical experience. Clinical practicum provides graduate nursing students the opportunity to integrate theory and practice in supervised clinical experiences. This clinical course provides a synthesis experience during which students implement the role of the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. The focus is on assessment, diagnosis, intervention and management of persons with mental illness and persons/populations at risk for mental illness, and primary prevention in mental health. Students will complete clinical hours with an approved site and preceptor. Clinical supervision of process dynamics, reflective practice and evidence-based psychiatric nursing interventions occurs during clinical conference.
