SOC 4932

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE & MINORITY CAUSE

This course will examine/explore the connections between minority causes, the use of civil disobedience, and the definition of justice. In the United States, minority causes are traditionally thought of to include only racial minorities. Little attention is often given to other types of minorities in a given population (e.g., economic, religious). As such, this course will provide students with the opportunity to explore different groups of minorities (e.g., racial, economic, religious) in the United States and Ireland, the use of civil disobedience by these groups toward the accomplishment of their definition of justice or equality.
