Mind, Brain, and Education

Neuro-cognitive bases of learning, memory, and motivation, and their implications for educational practice. Survey topics include basic neuroanatomy and an overview of neuroscience methodologies; evaluating claims of brain-based educational techniques; genetic, cultural, and environmental influences on brain development and learning; the cognitive and neural substrates of reading, mathematical reasoning, and creativity; and the cognitive and neural substrates of learning disability and giftedness. For each topic, classroom implications will be considered
