Civil Procedure I

Civil Procedure focuses on the litigation process through which parties enforce legal rights by going to court. In civil procedure we study the rules and norms that govern noncriminal cases, in which private individuals and government may be parties. Over the course of the Civil Procedure I and II sequence, students will study subject matter jurisdiction, personal jurisdiction, venue, the Erie doctrine, preclusion doctrines, the mechanics of pleadings, joinder, discovery, summary judgment, and trial and post-trial motions with an emphasis on the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
