Legal Studies is a semester-long required course for all evening division students in their first year of law study. The course provides fundamental information about the law, the American legal system, legal terminology, problem solving, the role of policy, and legal reasoning, both objective and persuasive. In addition, the course focuses attention on the skills needed for success in law school and beyond: note-taking, critical reading, case briefing, statutory interpretation, rule synthesis, outlining, exam taking, and time management, including maintaining a healthy work-life-school balance. Although some lecture is necessary, active and team-based learning will be emphasized, and the ultimate goal is to make each student an engaged and independent learner. **Evening students only
