Islam

This course is both historical and topical in its treatment of Islam. Our first emphasis will be on the life and career of Prophet Muhammad, the teachings of the Quran, the development of the Muslim community and its principal institutions to about 1300 CE. Topically we will cover the Quran, the basic beliefs and practices of Islam, and Sufism (Islamic mysticism). We will also consider the current situation in the Islamic world and the Islamic community
