This audience-oriented, non-performance course focuses on the study of theatre and its relationship to: 1) the cultures and societies who create theatre; 2) other entertainment media such as film and television; and 3) audience development. This course introduces students to elements of the production process including playwriting, acting, directing, design, and criticism. Students will also survey different periods, styles, and genres of theatre through play reading, discussion, films, and viewing and critiquing live theatre, including a required field trip to a play at a professional or community theatre.
