World Music

Music symbolizes a cultures way of life - for many people, music is a way of life. This will be a survey of music and culture including Latin America, West and South Africa, Native North America, India, Japan, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Through a wide range of selected case studies, students will develop strategies for understanding and listening to all kinds of music. As a final project, students will carry out cultural fieldwork as a way to connect their learning to their own musical world
