Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice in Collegiate Contexts

The purpose of this course is to engage in critical analysis of issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice within higher education and student affairs. The course focuses on how societal systems of privilege and oppression surrounding race, ethnicity, gender, ability, and other social identities historically have shaped and continue to shape access to and experiences in higher education for diverse students. The course also examines how institutions as well as individuals on college campuses respond to and grapple with instances of exclusion, inequity, and injustice and lead efforts toward equity, inclusion, and social justice. Students will deeply reflect on their personal and collective responsibility to create more equitable educational environments.
