Traditional Japanese Society

Patterns of culture and social organization from prehistoric to early twentieth-century Japan. Origins, prehistory, and traditional religious and political systems, marriage and kinship, language and culture. Changes and continuities in traditional and contemporary Japanese culture are addressed.
