Philosophy of Language: Semantics and Pragmatics

Extensive Writing. Philosophical issues and positions concerning the meaning and use of language. Topics include the distinction between meaning and implication, the roles of context and convention in language use, speaker meaning versus linguistic meaning and speech act theory. Only two units of credit for students who have taken PHI 137.
