This course is appropriate for students who have a specific interest in the role of probation and parole as correctional sanctions in community settings. Substantive topics, including the presentence investigation report, privatization, and the roles and responsibilities of probation and parole officers, are discussed. Particular attention is paid to research on the effectiveness of probation and parole, factors that contribute to the successful completion of probation and parole, and the role that the community and citizens play in these community corrections processes.
