African Archaeology

African hosts the oldest record of human biological and cultural evolution. This course provides a general survey of the African Archaeological record, covering the time span from 3.3 million years ago to the beginning of complex societies. Archaeological relics and hominin fossil remains from different parts of the continent will be considered in order to demonstrate how early human life-ways have changed over time in terms of cultural innovations, subsistence behavior and social organizations. An overview of major ancient African civilizations and their main achievements will be discussed in the concluding segment
