ARTH 322

Pop Art & Fluxus

Pop Art & Fluxus investigates the international, historical, and historiographic components of two artistic movements that developed simultaneously in the late 1950s. The course considers their visual strategies and ideological positions, foregrounds the interpretive contexts in which they have been conventionally situated (ranging from social realism and Marxist critiques to camp sensibility), and challenges students to pursue a critical reevaluation of these approaches
