Advanced Entomology

Examination of morphology, physiology, behavior, evolution and ecology of the major groups of insects. A collection of common insect families is required. The laboratory will include observations on live and preserved animals and possible field trips. Students will learn to: 1) use terms and concepts that describe the diversity of insects, 2) compare and contrast major insect groups with respect to structure and function, and 3) collect and prepare museum-quality specimens for scientific study. A project involving the student's interest in a particular group of insects and formal paper are required
