School Social Work: Policy and Practice

Designed to prepare students for social work practice in the public schools. It assumes that you have a foundation of knowledge in social work policy, practice, research, and human behavior in the social environment. It also assumes that you had some field practice or work experience in a human service setting, preferably a school. Examines a range of practices and policy issues related to the delivery of social work services in school settings. Addresses current federal and Kentucky laws as they relate to practice with school age children and their families. School social work professional standards, program development and licenser receive attention as well. An ecological and risk and resiliency framework for practice will be emphasized throughout the course. Additionally, the practice section is based on best practices and narrative social work. Finally, special attention is given to children living in poverty
