CHEM 3165

Survey of Biochemistry

An introduction to fundamental principles of biochemistry, including the structures and functions of the four major classes of biological macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and lipids), enzyme catalysis with basic kinetics, and the chemical nature of metabolic/bioenergetics processes. These topics are introduced by examining the primary catabolic pathways of carbohydrates (glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and the Krebs cycle) in detail.
