Central Asia from 1800 to the Present

Examination of the history of Central Asia from the Russian conquest up through the collapse of the Soviet Union and the era of independence. Specific consideration is given to the former Soviet Republics of Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kirgizstan, and Turkmenistan, as well as Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Xinjiang in China. Particular themes and topics include: colonization, revolution, reform, nationalism, Islam, and international relations. Meets non-Western requirement.
