Introduction to African American Theatre

A discussion-centered course designed to give students of all backgrounds an introductory understanding to the world of modern African American theatre. Covers elements of style, design, criticism, and history as they pertain to the genre through reading, discussion, and performance. Students explore, discuss, and analyze issues of politics, race, and gender in the American theatre. Emphasis is placed on major playwrights, theatre companies, and performers within their historical and social contexts.
